Akiyoshido Cave (Special Natural Monument) has a total length of 10.7 kilometers. It is the second longest and one of the largest limestone caves in Japan. There are many stalagmites, stalactites and terraced fields formed by huge limestone in the cave. These are valuable geological specimens. Akiyoshido Cave was formed more than 1 million years ago. Motonosumi shrine (about 40 minutes, free time)
Motonosumi shrine was once selected by CNN as one of the most beautiful places in Japan. Located in Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Motonosumi shrine has an endless torii tunnel. These 123 red torii extend all the way along the hillside to the edge of the cliff, forming a magnificent landscape with the blue sky, green land and blue ocean.
A highly challenging offering box
When visiting a shrine, people usually prepare some offering money. However, it is not easy to offer money at Motonosumi Shrine. The offering box here is set on a torii 6 meters above the ground. It can be said that it is the most difficult offering box in Japan to throw money into. Those who can successfully throw money into it are really lucky, and their wishes are supposed to have a good omen! Don't worry if you can't throw it in. There is also an ordinary-height offering box beside the shrine for you to use.
The magnificent view of Ryugunoshiofukidai
In winter, there is another unique and magnificent view, which is Ryugunoshiofukidai beside the shrine. Whenever big waves hit the gaps in the rock wall, a sound like a dragon's roar will be produced. When the north wind blows, the waves can even reach 30 meters high. When looking from a distance, it seems like a dragon is flying in the air. If the sunlight shines at the right angle, you can even watch a rainbow up close, which is really amazing!
