One of the 'Three Views of Japan' - Amanohashidate Scenic Area (Approx. 2.5 hours, including lunch break, cost not included)
Amanohashidate in Miyazu Bay on the Sea of Japan is one of the special scenic spots referred to as the 'Three Views of Japan,' alongside Matsushima in Mutsu and Miyajima in Aki. The sandbar stretches about 3.6 kilometers and is formed by coastal sedimentation, with around 8,000 pine trees present. White sandy beaches line both sides, creating a unique natural landscape. Its shape resembles a bridge extending towards the sky, hence its name 'Amanohashidate.' Positioned where the Asu Sea and Miyazu Bay of the Sea of Japan meet, it offers not only pristine natural beauty but also an expansive view of the islands.
There is an observation deck on Mount Monju where Amanohashidate can be viewed. The mountain has a sightseeing car and amusement facilities that are suitable for all ages. The view of Amanohashidate from here resembles a flying dragon flying to the sky, known as the 'Flying Dragon View,' offering a dynamic view of Amanohashidate. (Cable car ticket cost: Amanohashidate Scenic Area Cable Car/Single Railcar Pass 850 Japanese Yen)
Chionji Temple - Bunshudo (Temple for Academic Prayers)
Chionji enshrines the Seishi Bodhisattva, the deity of wisdom, similar to the Chinese God of Culture. Chionji boasts the largest mountain gate in the Tango region. What makes it unique is the fan-shaped fortune papers. When hung upside down, the fan paper gradually transforms from narrow to wide, symbolizing progress. The nearby rotating bridge connects Amanohashidate and Bunshudo on land. It rotates 90 degrees to allow passage for large vessels (non-scheduled). (Free admission)
Come and enjoy the beautiful sandbar at Amanohashidate beach.
Amanohashidate's sandbar has white sandy beaches on both sides. The soft, fine sand provides a pleasant walk in the pine forests, admiring various types and shapes of pine trees. The Amanohashidate Shrine is halfway between Amanohashidate and is a great place to pray for love. There is an ancient well-known as 'Iwakura-Izumi' that is listed as one of Japan's renowned springs. Remember to wash your hands before offering prayers. During the summer, it transforms into a beach with no entrance fee, offering changing rooms, lifeguards, and coin-operated showers. The beach's pine trees create natural umbrellas.
Amanohashidate Onsen - Chie no Yu
In front of JR Amanohashidate Station is the Amanohashidate Onsen, known for its natural hot spring water, which is believed to be good for the skin. If you're interested, you can try a soak. (Free outdoor foot bath with an entrance fee of 700 Japanese yen).
